Facilitate Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 instruction according to the NCTM Principles and Standards for School Mathematics
The following is a collection of online and technological resources intended to aid in the teaching of Algebra 1. According to the NCTM Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, Algebra instruction should include the following tenets at all grade levels:
· Understand patterns, relations, and functions
· Represent and analyze mathematical situations and structures using algebraic symbols
· Use mathematical models to represent and understand quantitative relationships
· Analyze change in various contexts
I am in my 11th year teaching Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 at Okemos High School and want to create an online resource library that would help guide my teaching in a way that would help me to meet the goals of these NCTM principles.
This resource library consists of a total of 20 annotated resources with 10 of them being more thoroughly evaluated for their effectiveness to facilitate learning in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 concepts at the high school level. It is my intention to cover a wide variety of topics typically covered in each curriculum. Also, at the end of the resource library, will be a lesson that I have developed to help illustrate how the resources might possibly be used in a classroom setting. It is my intent to continue to build this resource library and to share my findings with colleagues as we continue to strive for excellence in the teaching and learning of school mathematics.
