About Me
In my classroom at Okemos High School
My name is Dashika (Missy) Cosby (formerly McCarthy) and I am a high school math teacher at Okemos High School in Okemos, Michigan. I have been teaching there since September 2000 and served as the mathematics department chairperson from 2008 - 2011.
I earned my undergraduate degree from Michigan State University majoring in mathematics with a computer science minor as well as my secondary teaching certification. I later returned to Michigan State University's College of Education. to complete my Masters in Curriculum and Teaching.

My latest passion is technology and the most effective and efficient ways to use technology to engage students, encourage learning, and improve student achievement. The areas of technology that I am most interested in at the moment are Student Response Systems, using a Tablet PC in the classroom, the concept of the flipped classroom, and creating multimedia presentations that aid in student learning.

In the summer of 2011, I will complete my Masters in Educational Technology at Michigan State University. I hope to use my knowledge and experience in the program to be a leader in my school helping others effectively integrate technology into their classrooms. I may also venture into working outside of the classroom with teachers as a facilitator, helping them learn new technologies and ways that they could improve their practice. As of late, I have also thought that it would be interesting to work for a technology company developing concepts for hardware or software that could be used in educational settings. Admittedly, I'm also considering pursuing a PhD in educational technology at MSU as well. I can hardly contain my excitement about the endless number of possibilities that could come of this venture. More than anything, my goal is not for teachers to use technology for technology's sake, but to encourage the enhancement of sound teaching practices through the use of technology.
